“The Row” is the first album of the Italian rock band Siren, published in October 2014 by the Red Cat Records, registered at the Waves studio of Paolo Rossi in Pesaro, produced, written, arranged and composed by the band itself.
The musical themes inside the album are rather heterogeneous even though characterized by an energetic and mostly catchy unique sound in which found place other various instruments as well as: synth, keyboard, strings ( violin, cello) trumpet and accordion whose role is not marginal at all in fact support or actually characterized some tracks.
The lyrics, entirely composed by the whole band, as well as the musical parts, are mostly concentrate on the paradox, the bilateralism, the irony and the brutality of the universal events, characterized by a peaceful resignation to them, in one side and a timid exhortation to react, avoiding the pomposity of being master of life, in the other side, where often society and the single individuals are, with all their contradictions, protagonists. There is no lack of introspections in which is rather easy and immediate to identify oneself. The audience is often actually free to interpret or imagine the message of the songs, in that way the interpretation key of the topics is just the mood of the audience in that moment.
“The Row” is the queue, term that quite good represent the modern society where all of us lined up along the common flow waiting for our turn, which sometimes never comes, in that way we often realize that we wasted time waiting in line. The mass society is the society of the fullness and the rows, where is difficult to think for oneself. Don’t misunderstand our message, it’s normal that the modern society works like that, we are not politicians, least of all teachers of life, we don’t think that this way of living life is absolutely wrong, but sometimes is suitable to be the discordant voice in a choir, to feel a bit more alive.
“The Row” wants to be a small provocation and a shy incitement to abandon the line sometimes, to be human beings, so imperfect by definition
For what concern the cover, is not fortuitous the point of view from under the bridge, because this is the point of view of the people furthest from the society, which is a more detached and a little bit more objective view of it ( the society).
The city in the distance is what better represent the current evolutionary process of the human being and the concept of fullness and rows. The colors are a universal resume of the humans where white and black represent perfectly the definition of right and wrong ( good and evil) as this concept is consider nowadays in the common mind; in nature it doesn’t exist, using a trivial and careless definition “everything has different interpretations” ( everything can be relativize by humans mind); red is blood, the death that control everything: before her good and evil ( right and wrong) loose their already fleeting meaning.
The assignment of the colors to the elements was done purely for graphic purposes ( the city is not intended as the evil).
